Getting Around

45 days until the insanity that is eBay Live hits Boston (wonder if they know what is about to hit them?!!)

So many of you will be flying into Boston’s Logan Airport.  (For my Bostonian and surrounding area friends, you may want to skip the airport part…we’ll catch up with you in a few minutes).  I have included the different airlines that fly into Logan, the terminal they arrive at, as well as the individual airline’s contact information.

The airport has 4 different terminals: A, B, C, & E (not sure what happened to D…someone check on that and let me know!)  There is an information booth located in each baggage claim area if you have any last minute questions as you arrive in Boston.

For my international travelers: currency exchange is available in the arrivals hall.  When you exit, taxis are on the far left, and other transportation can be found curbside.  You also have an information booth to assist you.

For my DOUA travelers: handicap accessible taxis are available upon request.  See a Massport ground transportation agent, located outside of each terminal on the arrival level, for assistance.  Here is a very important link provided by Logan airport for you: http://www.massport.com/logan/airpo_adase.html  This site includes information about

Security, traveling, ADA information booths, and airport facilities broken down by terminal.  Here is some additional information provided by the site:

Passengers With Disabilities
All taxicab drivers are required to accept any passenger who has a disability, including their service animal. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available upon request at no additional charge. Call the Hackney Division of the Boston Police Department at 617-343-4475 for accessible taxi service.

All of your public transportation is available outside of the terminals, including taxis, rental cars, buses, limos, and shuttle’s to the water taxi.  It is approx. 4 miles to downtown…BUT, it will take you 20-30 minutes to get there – lol.  If you take a taxi, it should cost you approximately $20-45 depending upon where your hotel is.  The train & bus will run you a whopping $1.25.  And the cool water taxi is $10 one way, $17 round trip.  I did find a fabulous deal for a beautiful town car - $30 one way to downtown from the airport (doesn’t include tolls or tips, but it will seat a few of you!!) - http://www.bostontowncar.com/

Double-check with your hotel and see if they have shuttle service from the airport.  (We’ll get to mass transportation in a moment….)

Ok, so DON’T rent a car for eBay Live.  There is little parking and the parking that is available, for the most part, is VERY expensive.  (I even read one ‘tip’ that said to park illegally because the parking ticket was cheaper than legally parking! LOL).  If you have to rent a car, use my Hotwire trick of getting a car super cheap through them.

Nft bookNow, just to give you the lay of the land, I want you to check out this site: Not For Tourists

We’ll be talking more about this site in the coming weeks, but I wanted you to get a feel of how Boston is laid out. (You got to love a map that shows you where all the Dunkin’ Donuts are!!).

The Boston Convention Center is on map 10.  And most of the downtown area is 1-5.

If you would like to order the book (it’s pretty phenomenal), you can get a great deal at Amazon.  Here is Google’s version too: http://www.google.com/maps?q=Boston,+MA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title

Ok, now bookmark this next page… http://www.mbta.com – stands for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Association.  They have an amazing Rider Tool on the homepage (this is THE best mass-transit information system I have ever seen!)  You enter your start point, say the Boston Convention Center and then enter you ending point, say Faneuil Hall (for my DOUA peeps, you can check the handicap box too).  Then hit Display Trip.

Directions galore and estimated walking distance/time from your hotel to the nearest T or Bus Stop.

Now, the T is Boston’s subway system, and pretty cool.  Very accessible and easy to understand.

http://www.mbta.com/riding_the_t/getting_around/

Here is the link for my DOUA guys: http://www.mbta.com/riding_the_t/accessible_services/

You can also take the T to a Red Sox game! (we’ll talk about extra curricular activities in the coming weeks) http://www.mbta.com/riding_the_t/redsox/

Now, there is some confusion as to where the event is…there are two Convention Centers in town…and I hope no one goes to the wrong one.  Here is the one eBay Live will be at:

http://www.bostonconventioncenter.com/

Direction to the Boston Convention Center can be found here: http://www.mccahome.com/bcec_dir_pub.html

Janelle’s Secret Cool Tip

Frommer’s Boston Travel Guidebook has a fabulous, free, excerpt on this site: http://realtravel.com/boston-massachusetts-travel-guide-d17854-1.html

Includes tips on driving into Boston (for my local eBayers), what to do if you get sick (God forbid), and traveling with disabilities.  Great site!

Next week: Some things you need to get ready NOW!…
