A few months ago I ran a promotion on OSI Rock Stars – 24 hours free access to the site…no credit card, no automatic renewal, no ‘you can see this, but not this’…just 100% access to the site.  I wanted to open up the exclusive backstage area for all to see.  There wasn’t smoke and mirrors, or requirements to purchase additional levels to get what you really needed to be successful – but 250 hours+ of educational classes to help you achieve online success.  I wanted the world to see that.  So I opened up the doors.  And they came – boy did they come.

And many of my peers laughed at me.

Take the information, apply it to their business and then be blown away when the profits started coming in…when sales increased…fees went down…customers started flowing in.

This incredible email arrived in my inbox today and once again confirmed my decision to always follow my dreams…that they would lead others to achieve theirs.  The passion in this email from someone who got to experience just 24 hours Backstage at OSI Rock Stars is exactly why my so-called peers are wrong:

Dearest Janelle and staff,

I would like to give you a great big hug and say thank you for letting me have the free 24 hour back stage pass a few months back. I listened to as many classes that I could squeeze into my schedule while caring for my two kids. I am sure I could have downloaded the classes and listen to them again but I could not figure out how. I have learned so much from your site that it is crazy!! The Online Success Institute newsletter was one of several newsletters I subscribed to that I actually read. 

I found the content to be timely and easily implemented.  When Janelle put out the call to beta-test a new website, I was completely on board immediately already having a sense of what this woman was working to accomplish for her readers.  I quickly sent out a “Pick me! Pick me!” application detailing what I felt I could add to the review of the site.  God and my husband know I’m full of opinions!  Then the day came when to my delight I was picked!

Those of us chosen eagerly dove head first into a site we knew nothing about, thrilled to be a part.  We all soon became close-knit family headed by Janelle.  As we journeyed through various podcasts posted to the site, Janelle not only asked, but insisted that we apply the teachings to our own business but in such a warm, wonderful way, that we were happy to oblige.  Soon it became very apparent that so long as we had a “success mindset”, she would see to it that we achieved our goals while helping her to achieve hers of bringing the Internet community a website that was so incredibly supportive and so filled with valuable information we could do nothing BUT succeed!

Since joining, I have been able to consistently maintain Powerseller status whereas before, I would make it for a short period of time but then lose it, gain it back again, etc.  Now I have the tools I need to just continue to climb to the next level.   I have gained a far more positive attitude than I originally had realizing that if you get up every day and choose to have a good, productive day, you will.  Let nothing get in your way.  OSI surrounds you with this thinking.  Opinions and advice are freely given, but no one ever brings you down or puts you into a negative mood.  I have learned about things I never knew I never knew!  Things such as the intricacies of SEO, SEM, affiliate marketing, Squidoo, how to use iGoogle, how to better find and chose appropriate keywords using proven methods and statistics, and far, far more. 

OSI Rock Stars is one of those things that after joining, you will kick yourself for not having done sooner.  Many people look initially just at the cost of something and quickly talk themselves out of it.  With OSI, it is most definitely (and I say this with all the vehemence I can muster in something written) an investment.  If you had to pay someone, or in this case a lot of someones, to teach you all of the material provided on this site, it would run you easily into the thousands of dollars.  Janelle never presents anything that she does not feel will benefit your business, thus bringing you more money.  How could you possibly go wrong?!?  Never once have I looked back or questioned my membership.  I cannot impress upon you enough how beneficial this site is to an Internet retailer.

I am currently writing a book on the multitudes of other sites available on which to list.  Janelle and the other members of OSI have been there for me every step of the way with suggestions and motivation.  Many times they don’t even realize it, but if I need a boost, I can visit the Motivational Moments forum.  If I need information on marketing my book, there are at this point in time, 27 different audio and video classes on various aspects of marketing alone!

Until joining this site, I was at a brick wall and I didn’t even realize it.  I have come so very far since joining and I see no end in site!  I now have a goal list as long as my arm.  I look forward to each day God gives me because it’s another 10-12 hours to try out all the new things I’ve learned.  I never look forward to going to bed anymore!

I have so thoroughly enjoyed the past year.  I have made some truly wonderful friends and now have a mentor with a heart of solid gold to give me guidance.  I look forward to many, many more years of being a part of this beautiful, wonderful group of people~

I can’t believe that it has been a whole year since the inception of OSI Rock Stars –

brainchild of the Fabulous Janelle Elms.  I unashamedly begged to be one of her Beta Testers and was granted that honor as well as the great honor of being chosen as one of her Rock Star Promoters.

 

In signing up for the Online Success Newsletter and joining Janelle at Rock Stars, my goal was to help others achieve Success with their own businesses as I had begun to do when I first met Janelle in June of 2007 in Boston at eBay Live.  Janelle’s eBay Stores 101 seminar was the first one I attended in Boston and even if I hadn’t gone to other seminars and taken advantage of the Solutions Floor, I knew that I had chosen wisely by learning at her feet how to be that 1% of eBay Store Owners who set their store up correctly.  Who knew she had so much more in store for me.

 

I have learned how to improve my DSR scores (that’s right Janelle, I called it the STARS when I first met you and complained loudly about it!), drive my sales by using auctions as well as eBay Stores, how to fill my store and my auctions with those ever important Keywords and research the best ones for my products.  I really have learned a lot more than I ever even knew there was to know.  I have only scratched the surface of all of the knowledge here in the one year I have been a member of this all important learning experience.

Along that same line, I have been befriended by so many wonderful entrepreneurs in this great Rock Star Family.  I speak of all of the Rock Stars as my friends.  I solidified my friendships with many Rock Stars in the build up to the 2008 eBay Live.  We had such fun planning our trip to Chicago and discussing what seminars we would attend.  My goal at eBay Live 2008 was to introduce as many of the eBay bellyachers to the positive influence of OSI Rock Stars as was humanly possible.  Along with around 30 more OSI Rock Star Members, I was able to work on that for two full days.  Unfortunately, my work came to a screeching halt on the third day when I was in a very bad accident and (drats) missed out on the last two days of LIVE.

 

My Rock Star Family, tucked me under their wing and helped my family and me in the aftermath of the accident.  What would my daughter have done without my mentor Janelle, my personal and precious friend GrannieAnnie and dear Alex?  What would I have done without the entire Rock Star Family coming to my aid and supplying needed money for my family to be able to live in Chicago for the three weeks of my recovery.  I received so many cards and so many prayers were lifted up for me that I am convinced my Rock Star friends and family (with God in the control tower) actually saved my life.  I never thought that my OSI Rock Star membership would mean so very much to me and mine.

 

To sum up my first year here at OSI Rock Stars, let me just say THANK YOU!  To Janelle, Jeremy and all of my true friends at my Rock Star Home.  Even if I haven’t met some of you in person, you mean the world to me.  My Rock Star education with over 250 hours of classes available to me has kept me on top of every perceived problem at eBay, has made my name come up at the top of Google, has garnered me top dollar for the items I offer and kept me in the PowerSeller program where I actually get discounts on my Final Value Fees since OSI Rock Stars has helped me have 100% feedback and excellent DSR scores.  When I hear some of my friends say that they are leaving eBay, I tell them that there are better ways of doing everything and I truly believe that Janelle’s positive success mindset and the encouragement of the other members of this family are what keeps me in the game.

I have been a member of the OSI Rockstars since April 2008. I am very very blessed to be a part of this community as these people really care about each other’s success and our personal lives as well. I also enjoy that this is a Christian environment and we can feel safe here to express our faith.

 

I have been selling on eBay on a casual now and then basis since 2000. In March I was given an awesome opportunity to help a friend clean out a house of a previous pastor who had an extensive library of Bible related study books. I was asked to sell these books on consignment. There are so many books, I have inventory for 2 years. Shortly after I accepted this job, I received another request to do another consignment job - this one dealing with military books and items from a retired army Sergeant who traveled around the world and had so many different collections. Now I have enough inventory for at least 3 years! I have since received several other smaller consignment jobs.

 

I knew I had to become serious about my eBay business now that I was selling for other people and not myself. I had been reading about eBay since I started but I knew I had to start applying what I read. It makes no sense to just read about it and not do it! That is something I’m still guilty of.

 

I did research and came across the 1% club that Janelle Elms created. From that I stumbled on the OSI Rockstar site. It sounded just what I needed to learn and gain new information. However… it was based on audio interviews and podcasts. Those are worthless to me as I am deaf. However, I was not going to let that stop me.  I ventured into the site as a member and was immediately made to feel at home. I wandered about the forum and learned so much just from reading what others wrote. So many helpful and generous people on this site. I started asking questions on how to improve my business and I received an offer to help develop my new store logo. Many thanks again to Alex for that! Several members also offered to transcribe classes for me giving of their time and energy for that. (Special thanks and hugs to Jennifer and Dorothy)

 

Since I really didn’t start keeping proper records before April, I can’t say in percentage how much my business has grown from a year ago but I can tell you that I am now a powerseller - something I never thought I would be. I enjoy a 20% discount. My feedback is almost 2300 (it probably will be by tomorrow) and my DSRs are 4.9, 4.9, 4.9, 4.8. I got myself some cool looking business cards and also started a blog. Best of all is that I have more confidence in my abilities and God given skills. I feel more like a business and have a “can do” attitude. I DO choose success!

 

I have SO much more to learn. I need to make my store right to make the most profit. I need to learn how to squidoo and I want to learn more about affiliates and how to profit from that. I have no desire to become a millionaire or having a fancy house or cars as my treasures are in heaven and not here on earth but I do want the freedom that having enough money gives us. It will be a great day when my husband and I can just do something we want to do without backing down because we don’t have enough money for that or it costs too much. THAT is my goal and also to pass my blessings on.

My OSI Rock Star Success Story …

As a result of my membership in OSI Rock Stars, I dramatically increased my business knowledge base and acquired many new skills. Over the past year, I incorporated professional education and training into my weekly routine. I participated in online podcasts on a broad range of topics including Profitable Keywords, Squidoo, Blogging, the eBay Trading Assistant program, Alternative Sales Channels, Social Networking, and eBay Stores (among others).

What I learned in OSI Rock Stars inspired me to redesign by business logo and eBay store home page. I also learned to use new tools — including Terapeak, Bling! It, and Auctiva — to make eBay store and listings look more professional (and ultimately more successful in the increasingly competitive eBay and e-Commerce marketplace).

OSI Rock Stars is not only a source of technical expertise, it teaches basic business concepts. This past year, I put my business on a more professional footing by engaging a bookkeeper to set up my business books and organize my financial record-keeping systems (thereby insuring the long-term financial health of my business).

I have begun to market my business both inside and outside of eBay. With the assistance of OSI Rock Stars, I formed a ever-expanding list of search engine keywords, I studied basic html and linking techniques, learned to use the eBay stores newsletter function, created Squidoo lens, learned about affiliate programs, and established a business Blog (just to name a few of my efforts).

I have also grown in areas that are not easily quantifiable. I wish I could say that my business has grown exponentially in the past 12 months, but that has not been the case. Due to unanticipated personal challenges, my business has experienced setbacks and periods of stagnation. In a job, there is a built-in mechanism for accountability — it is called a boss. Whatever a person may be experiencing in his or her personal life, an employee must stay focused and on track or risk losing his / her job. An entrepreneur has to motivate him or herself even in the face of personal adversity. This can be a difficult adjustment for those of us who come from a job background. Over the past year, I have faltered and fallen, but because I was plugged into OSI Rock Stars, I keep getting back up. Having a community to support, encourage, and inspire me has enabled me to start over even in the face of personal tragedy. Moreover by becoming an integral part of the OSI Rock Star community, I have been able to share my strength, hope, and encouragement with others. Because of my association with OSI Rock Stars, I am making incremental steps forward in my business and growing as an entrepreneur even in those times when my business is not moving forward at the pace I might wish.

I was a late adopter of online buying, having never been on eBay until…

I attended a workshop in Phoenix led by an eBay University Educator, Janelle Elms in late 2004.

 

I remember listing my first item in January 2005, a ceramic Boot Beer Stein with a bad photo, a cute description in an eBay western listing template. It outsold 4 similar boot steins from experienced sellers to a Beer Stein collector that emailed me raving about my packing, quick shipping, the thank you letter with candy enclosed and the uniqueness of the item.  I was elated and hooked!

 

Working full time and putting together an eBay business selling new liquidated items in a variety of categories quickly propelled my husband and I into silver Powerseller status.  We were neophytes in internet marketing but did our best to differentiate getting a logo designed, an eBay Store, sold internationally, learned how to take great pictures, created compelling descriptions, and had a graphics designer make unique branded product specific listing templates. Our packing was impeccable, shipping was within 48 hours of purchase often going out the next day and our feedback was 100% positive.  We worked well into the wee hours of each night and all weekend keeping this growing eBay business going. We went to trade shows in Las Vegas, and also attended eBay Live increasing our knowledge of the business and approved solution providers. My husband was computer proficient, always the go to source when the computer got a mind of its own, and also handled the accounting/bookkeeping. He did the listing, I made the purchasing decisions, took the photos, created the descriptions, and packed. We both shared the shipping duties at lunch around our work. Life was full, fun, and very busy.

 

Folk Art was my passion and I slowly began integrating Mexican and Peruvian Folk art into our product mix with good results and built a solid foundation of suppliers for this niche.

 

The Fall of 2005 was one of turmoil and unexpected change. I divorced my husband and was faced with running the eBay business alone plus working full time. To say I was terrified was an understatement as I was not computer savvy, nor did I enjoy the bookkeeping side of the business. I look back on that time and wonder how I accomplished all that I did as I was on auto-pilot in survival mode physically and emotionally. I learned a lot about myself during that time and came up to speed as quickly as I could wearing all the hats required to be a solo entrepreneur.  I slipped to Bronze Powerseller working alone, but still maintained a 100% feedback rating and a growing happy customer base.

 

I continued to build the business in the Latin American niche and was gaining repeat customers and accolades from my buyers. I was also was getting unexpected ill will from another eBay seller in my category. Welcome to the world of internet selling and turf wars. I knew I was doing something right otherwise I would not be considered a threat to another sellers business.

 

Fast forward to Fall of 2007, and Janelle Elms prelaunch of her phenomenal OSI Rock Stars eBay Educational site.  I was fortunate to be asked to participate as a beta tester and promoter getting an early view of what has become my best internet ally and business partner.  OSI Rock Stars has propelled my business forward in ways that I could not have done alone.

 

Janelle empowered me to look at my business analytically giving me the tools and knowledge to implement SEO, viral marketing, multi-channel selling, how to rebrand my eBay Store by hiring an accomplished web designer who created an amazing niche specific Store header, 5 custom pages, and About me Page, taught me the importance of Key words, how to create a Squidoo lens, a blog, a My Space page, a newsletter, outsourcing bookkeeping, and hiring an international web designer to create my two soon to launch off eBay websites. I still have 100% feedback with close to 3,000 transactions since January of 2005.  My customer feedback has always been excellent, however, since implementing suggestions made by Janelle emphasizing 5 Gold Star Service in my listing templates, and in a letter included with every shipment my buyers are raving about both the item and service provided.  My next goal is to achieve Silver Power Seller Status again, and I know that is reachable being an OSI Rock Star.

Q3 net sales up 31% at Amazon to $4.26 billion -

With boosts from sales of electronics and other general merchandise and global markets, net sales at Amazon.com Inc. rose 31% to $4.26 billion for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, up from $3.26 billion a year ago, as net income rose 48% to $118 million from $80 million, Amazon said Wednesday.
