This is a great website created by David and Ina Steiner of AuctionBytes to initially help sellers have a place to promote all of their businesses.  However, I just got off the phone with Ina, and they are about to really ramp up the advertising for Every Place I Sell so that buyers (yes, those yummy holiday buyers) will be using it.  And, they have some nice Google search love happening too.  Awesome benefit for you and it’s free (well, right now it is, but I wouldn’t delay based upon what Ina said to me today – just saying!)

People’s dreams are coming true!!

Over a year and half ago I started the Online Success Institute (OSI) with the goal to help teach entrepreneurs how to be successful.  That goal didn’t include just eBay, but everything an entrepreneur would need to achieve their goals – motivation, marketing tools, legal & taxes, additional sales channels and more.  I am SO very proud of all of our OSI members – the Rock Stars - at how they are using this information to make their dreams a reality.  Check out the most recent email I received from one our incredible Rock Stars, Shannon:

Shirley of www.WhiskerFeathers.com just sent me a useful website, http://www.booksalefinder.com to help everyone in finding amazing sourcing deals on books.  She also sent me this great email after reading about sourcing at book sales in the newsletter:

 

 “I am fortunate because I live in Los Angeles where we have lots of local library branches. I located two of them close by that were having book sales Saturday. One of them has occasional sales while it seems the other one has a little used book store within the library itself that is always open. At the first one I headed for the non-fiction tables. Janelle says to go where nobody else is. I found two books that have to do with how to save money, who couldn’t use that? Speaking of bibles, one is called The Consumer Bible like new condition! I found a set of two books called The Bible Code in good condition, people are really interested that sort of stuff these days. I also got a collector’s edition of a book about Corvettes that a corvette enthusiast might really like. All these cost me $3.84! I had a little time left before the other library’s bookstore opened so I dropped by a local thrift store to look at their books. I found a set of brand in sealed in the box set of six TAEBO II workout tapes at a really low price, they would make a great gift for someone! The other library was particularly interesting to me because they had a cart of collector’s books. The lady told me they are getting them donated from a movie studio near by. I found a couple that I’d like to hang onto for the information they contain that I can use for idea material. I’ll be checking back with them quite often. I did really well and figure I spent around $15 for all the books I got from all three places. Best, Shirley”

As I mentioned the other day, my friend Donna had sidetracked my busy day of work and met me at a local book sale.  For $3 I could fill a large bag with all the books I could fit in there.  I found some great books for me, and even a few gifts for my friends.  But of course I had my sourcing eyeballs on.  I found some really great books that I think could potentially do quite well (although at mere pennies a piece, if they don’t I’m not out any money).  However, I remembered the lesson I always tell you guys – don’t do Surface Sourcing.  Don’t sell what everyone else is selling, go deeper.  Don’t just pay attention to the sparkly things.  Well everyone was in the romance novels, suspense, and children’s books.  After learning from Tim, Mr Customer Service and our Home Run guru, I headed straight to the Bible section.  Found a few things there that I think might work to put up on sale.  Then I found a primer from 1910 that I believe is a 1^st edition (need to do some research).  And a great medical book from the 40’s.  Definitely not sparkly books, but old, grey – but potentially worth some money.  I took one more look around and realized I hadn’t been to the computer section.  Now, computer books are borrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggggg – at least to me.  But it’s not about me, it’s about the buyer.  So I looked at the section with buyer’s eyes and found 3 sets of Microsoft books still sealed in their boxes.  They definitely weren’t fitting in my plastic bag, so I asked the librarian how much she wanted for them.  She said, a $1.00 a piece.  I figured why not – at least I would have some fun/silly gifts to give at Christmas!  It did take 3 trips to get them out to the car (they are SO heavy).   And when I got home I researched them.

The first one will make me about $5

The second set will make me about $70

And the 3^rd set made me call Cindy immediately and scream in her ear.

BUT…I’m not going to tell you what they are worth.  I am going to do a fun contest with you – an exercise – to walk you through the eBay research process.  I have provided you with the information you need about this book set here:

Sourcing at book sales

 

Very distracted over the weekend – too many things trying to grab my attention:

TV – can’t believe the line up – Escape to Witch Mountain (I don’t think I want to see the upcoming new version of it – love the original too much), Funny Face (adore Hepburn), Blazing Saddles AND the Niners game (winning two weeks in a row!).  Thank gosh for Tivo and Netflix.

 

Weather – had to buy pumpkins today because it’s so fabulously Fall outside. (my favoritest season)

 

Sourcing – my evil friend Donna reminded me there was a book sale yesterday at the library.  Of course had to go.  A bag of books for $3.00! (I have one coming up that is only $1 a bag – wow!) I found some great books for me, but also found some yummy finds to throw up on eBay.  Who knows, maybe the primer from 1910 will be a Home Run or perhaps the book from the 40’s Medical Diseases for nurses – lol.

I also found some insanely heavy, still sealed, Microsoft training book sets.  They cost me a buck for each set, so it was a no-brainer. (except for the 3 trips to the car it took to get them out of the library).  At the very least I have awesome pink elephant gifts for the holidays – lol.  (UPDATE: watch the newsletter – I think I have some interesting updates on this purchase!)

 

Fall is definitely the season for book sales.  Check Google for ones in your area by typing in ‘book sales’ and then the city or area you are in.  Here is the one for Seattle: http://www.kcls.org/events/book_sales.cfm   

This is a brilliant and very cheap way, if you love garages/estate sale shopping, to learn more about sourcing for this category.  You can buy books so cheap that if they don’t end up working on eBay, you can always donate them without worrying about throwing money away.  I think I stuffed over 15 books in that bag. (Plus you don’t have to get up at 5am to do it – lol.  Now you know why I like it!)

eBay sellers don’t want their buyers to buy – final hours

 

I was dotting my ‘I’s and crossing my ‘t’s – finishing touches on tomorrow’s BIG eBay Stores Success Coaching class when I decided to head over to the eBay discussion boards to make sure there wasn’t any last detail I had overlooked.  Yes, just for you I was willing to brave the eBay discussion boards – now I remember why I never read them anymore – ick.  But, I did come across this gem.  It has to be one of my all time favorite posts on eBay’s discussion boards – this was from an eBay seller…yep, don’t want those silly buyers hitting the BUY button and trying to give me money, no sir re bob.

 

We encourage ebay store sellers to post the new ebay store fees structure in their store listing page, so we can informed the potential buyers the fact: how much does it cost to sell thru ebay, maybe the wise ebay buyers will think twice before clicking the buy it now button, and pickup the phone…..

So why the huge emphasis on Google?…Well, let’s see, besides the fact that there are over 1.5 Billion searches done daily?  Do you just want the buyer’s who are on eBay already or would you LOVE more and new customers?  Yep, thought so.  Which is why we going to devote plenty of time during the One Percent Coach – eBay Stores training to make sure you are on Google…and not on any page…and not just on the first page either.  Nope, research has found that the TOP 3 search results get 79% of the clicks!  WOW.

I was doing research on SEO and search engine marketing when I happened upon a recent study done by Think Eyetracking   They produced a Heat Map (showing where a customer ‘goes to’ on a page)  In this is a case a picture is worth a thousand words – check out the difference from just 3 years ago (2005) to now:

 

You can see the top 5 search links get major attention, while the top 3 is where it’s at (or more important…where YOUR PRODUCTS should be at).

I send out an email to friends/family and anyone else every other week or so with freebies/good deals (like free mag subscriptions, samples and more). Couple of sites you might want to check out that are great:

 

www.hotcouponworld.com (free), www.startsampling.com (free), www.freesamplesite.com/ydf (free) and the best one of all is www.refundcents.com which costs $12 a year for online http://www.refundcents.com/Subscriptions.asp - they have printouts of how to work the deals, centsible chat is great to find out what deals work, there is a free grocery board that is new (see from the home page). This site has saved me thousands of dollars in the last few years. I have been doing freebies and such since 1999 and even couponed in college in the early 80’s so I have been at it a long time!!
